Reviews and Ratings

Keith Robinson reviewed this wine as follows:

Price: $17

Availability: Unknown, sorry

Assessed by: Keith Robinson

Tasted: September 2014

Product Details: Rioja, Spain. 14% ABV. 100% Tempranillo

Crianza means bred, brought up, cradled. On a Spanish wine label it usually means aged at least two years of which six months had to be in oak casks. If the wine is from the Rioja district, the rules are tougher – the wine must of been aged at least one year in oak, two years minimum total.

The casks of Rioja are often made from American oaks staves. The American oak imparts a distinctive vanilla quality. As a parlour trick, impress your friends by distinguishing American oak aged wines.

The tasting: Deep and dark to the eye. Little sign of ageing. Rich dark plum and vanilla nose. Very smooth palate, soft plushy mid palate with generous dark fruit. Clean, short finish.

Drink in the next couple of years. Wines from Rioja at this price are released when ready.

What to read with: Trashy novels.

Food pairing: Very good with simple, straight forward food, for example, roast chicken with mashed potatoes.

When to drink: In front of the TV with a nice person who tolerates silly parlour tricks. Watch a Penélope Cruz movie.

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
