A splendid Oregonian Pinot Noir that is a benchmark for both the region and the grape. This silky red wine blends New World energy with Old World finesse and styling. Aromas of fleshy cherry, wild violets, earth and smoke. Pair with more of the same. MINE: From Domaine Drouhin this Pinot Noir from the Dundee Hills wine region is a benchmark PN for Pinot Noir for Oregon. The 2014 vintage is smooth, silky with ripe wild cherries, earthy violets and smoky berry fruit. Tannins are polished and acidity it in total balance with fruit. Great work. Enjoy on its own or with a rack of lamb. OTHER: Jon Steeves - Sommelier rated this wine as 93/100 with the following review: Tart and tangy, complex on the palate. Silky smooth and well integrated. Ripe blackberry and black cherry, with medium plus tannins, high acidity, mouth-watering and juicy. A great wine to pair with roast turkey, or beast. Tasted 2014 vintage in Nov 2017 decanted. 93 points. #BespokeTastings. OTHER: Greg Hughes rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review: If anybody would understand Oregonian Pinot, it's Burgundy. Cool climate and old world, in style. Drouhin brings their expertise in crafting aromatic elegance in Bourgogne to a region with the perfect climate for Pinot Noir. This wine has a nice ruby/garnet colouration. Wisps of rooibos tea, smoke, cherry, beet, anise, and leather. Extraction is great. Not overdone. They still managed a nice colour too. It means the flavours are pure and not overburdened with tannins from the skins or oak. Black cherry, tobacco, char, vanilla, currant, a slight tamarind quality. Excellent pairing for roast duck or goose. Make sure there are plenty of roast garlic and veggies with it. Yum. OTHER: Gwen Barton rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review: New world with old world character. Ripe raspberry, black cherry with a hint of mint and cooking spices on the nose. Pleasant acidity with somewhat youthful tannins. Nice depth to the finish where we notice Pinot’s characteristic earthiness. Lovely now, but could also benefit from a few years in the cellar. Pair with prosciutto and soft cheese. Tasted Feb 2018. OTHER: A great pinot noir that shows dried flowers, violets and orchids. Cherry and raspberry undertones, too. Medium to full body with an incredible polished texture. Ripe and round tannins and a fresh and vibrant finish. Delicious now but better in 2020.
