Reviews and Ratings

Neil Phillips rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

Not your usual white Rioja: mostly Viura, yes, but with a splash of Manzanilla Sherry.

You catch that nuttiness on the ample nose, along with candied orange peel, Meyer lemon, allspice, fennel.

Zippingly dry with Sherry-like acidity, but a depth of fruit beyond the nut notes. Good length.

I'm intrigued to see how this will age.

Tasted February 2020.
Craig Haynes - WSET3 FWS SWS IWS rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

Outside the ordinary in a good way. Defined by chamomile, white tree fruit and brine notes mingled with nutty manzanilla characteristics, this dry Viura dominant blend was aged oak barrel and botas. The 100+ year old producer harvested this fruit from the renowned Rioja Alta wine growing region.

CVNE's Monopole 2015 is an interesting Viura white wine that has had a splash of Manzanilla Sherry from Sanlúcar. The wine is constantly evolving as it matures in bottle. The Viura also spent over eight months in neutral oak barrels before it was blended with the Manzanilla. Winemaker, Ezequiel García died in August 2017 and in his honour have added a black band on a corner of the label. Look for chamomile, dried floral aromas with dried fruit flavours on the palate. - Community Wine Reviews
