Very tannic now, but give it some cellar time and it'll be glorious. Also you'll still need to decant it when you do open it -- 1-2 hours. Aromas of smoke, leather, tanned leather, savoury herbs and blackened fruit. This wine is mostly made from Tempranillo grapes and is aged for 12 months in French and American oak casks. Pair with grilled lamb.

Food pairings: roast rosemary lamb, bison burgers, roast grouse.

Reviews and Ratings

Stephen Andrews reviewed this wine as follows:

Tasted Sept. 19, 2018. Colour medium ruby. Legs thick. Aromas and flavours of, cherry, strawberry sauce, spice, cedar and wood burner. Taste extra dry, full body, ripe fruit, grippy in your face tannin. Some mouthwatering, the alcohol is balance with the tannin. Long complex oak inspired finish. This is a nice wine that shows what Tempranillo can do when aged in oak. Highly recommended try. Just add a nice lamb dish.
Imperial Reserva 2012 is a 85% Tempranillo, 10% Graciano and 5% Mazuelo red wine blend from the Rioja, fermented in stainless steel and matured in oak barrels for two years. Drink now and for the next three years. - Community Wine Reviews
