Remarkable value and taste for the price point, with brooding fleshy black fruit and black pepper on the nose and palate of this Niagara red wine made from Syrah grapes. Pair this black beauty with grilled steak.

Classic berries and more berries. Hints of smoked meat add complexity. Old world dryness, and old world understated level of fruit. Clearly new world on the palate when one tastes the purity of the fruit (blackberries).

Smoky plum and black pepper aromas up front with some cedar and horse aromas hiding behind. Flavours are similar with a brighter raspberry note tossed in as well. Minimal tannins, and a very silky mouth feel. I can imagine this pairing exceptionally well with a nice smoked meat on rye sandwich.

Light plum, blackberry, blueberry and cherry. Loads of green, white and black pepper. Strawberry, blackberry and cherry notes on the palate. Spicy and smooth. Medium plus acidity, body and tannins with a medium finish. Pair with peppercorn meatloaf and grilled spicy sausages. 88 points

Blackberry and dark cherry are contrasted by black olive, black pepper, smoke, and some gamey/meaty tones. The fruit is lean and vibrant on the palate, with some vegetal bell-pepper adding to the aromas. Medium bodied and quite elegant.

This intensely deep purple Niagara Syrah shows key notes of blackberries, black currants, smoke and craked black pepper. Palate structure is off-dry with moderate levels of acidity, surprisingly low to medium tannins and a long peppery finish. Pair this medium bodied new world cool climate Syrah with gamey roasts. Tasted Dec 2015.

Deep purple and 12.5% ABV, the 2013 vintage Syrah from Niagara Peninsula VQA. This wine shows prominent blackberry and cedar plank aromatics on the nose. The palate offers blackberry, strawberry, cracked black pepper and some herbaceous green bell pepper. Medium tannins, medium acidity, medium fruit, this wine is value priced and pairs well with tomato based beef ragout.

A nice wine if you enjoy lots of pepper…
Presentation: Industrial looking, almost like a grunge-style T-shirt
Appearance: Dark ruby red, no orange tinge in sight
Nose: Black pepper, sour cherries
Taste: Prominent black pepper. Smelled and tasted of dirty socks when paired with Parmesan cheese, so not a good pairing. Would be better with something like peppercorn steak or roast beef, I think.
Finish: Leaves a strong peppery taste, and not much else.
Overall impression: If you like black pepper, this wine’s for you. I admit it is too peppery and new-world for my taste. I prefer the Côtes du Rhône style Syrahs.
Value: 4 out of 5

Creekside opened its doors in 1997, and is becoming known especially for its Syrah-based red wines.
