Reviews and Ratings

Stephen Beaumont CSW CWE rated this wine as 86/100 with the following review:

Tasted at a recent seminar in Toronto, white wines predominated as they do in the Friuli Grave region. However, as evidenced by this example, some decent reds are also made and enjoyed around the world. Some 200,000 bottles of this vintage (2013) were made by the century-old La Delizia cooperative under the Friuli Grave DOC.

Made using modern techniques in stainless steel tanks and without any exposure to oak, the wine has a ruby red colour obtained from just 15 days of skin contact. The vines are young - most less than ten years old, and so there is a beguiling simplicity to the structure of the wine. It is full flavoured and elegant but this is not a power wine and almost the antithesis of many a New World Cab.

The representative from the winery suggested that the stoney soil that is prevalent in the Friuli Grave region gives the wines their characteristic shine. It is an analogy that I enjoy and I would pair this wine with grilled red meat and medium flavoured cheeses.

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
