From the Similkameen Valley, British Columbia, Burrowing Owl 2019 Sauvignon Blanc has a splash of Semillon added to it. Bright and fragrant on the nose with gooseberry, tropical fruit, lemon meringue and wild herb aromas, this is a beautifully-balanced and complex white wine; dry and mouth-filling with layers of tropical fruit, grapefruit, apple, fine herb, citrus peel, nutty, spicy and flinty mineral flavours on the palate. Elegant, beautifully-crafted and summer in a glass for sure. Pour with grilled chicken dishes. The Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon grapes were harvested by hand with 35% of the juice fermented and aged for three months in a selection of new French oak with a small portion in Acacia barrels; the balance of the juice was fermented and aged in stainless-steel tanks.

Sauvignon Blanc food pairings: grilled shellfish dishes, quiches, grilled chicken dishes, pasta Alfredo.

Reviews and Ratings

Matt Steeves - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

Matt's review: Burrowing Owl's 2019 Sauvignon Blanc is sourced from their Keremeos vineyard in the Similkameen Valley. A blend of 91% Sauvignon Blanc and 9% Semillon, where a third was barrel fermented to provide additional weight and textural complexity. The nose shows sweet passionfruit, gooseberry, lemongrass, lime zest, and flinty minerality. The palate is crisp with delicious exotic fruit, herbs, and a creamy chalky-mineral finish. Very expressive and complex flavour and texture, with exceptional balance. Highly recommend enjoying this fine Sauvignon Blanc with grilled halibut with cilantro garlic butter or fish tacos with lime-cilantro crema. Tasted March 2021. 92 points. Jennifer Havers - WSET Level 3 rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

This is a pretty, fresh wine that is perfect for spring. Aromas of green herbs, pineapple, lemon-lime, fresh grass, and melon. Dry on the palate, with tropical and citrus fruit notes, bright acidity and fresh green herbal notes. Refreshing and bright - enjoy with spring pea risotto.
