Reviews and Ratings

Deborah Podurgiel - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Another great, single vineyard Meritage 42% Merlot, 22% Cabernet Franc, 17% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Malbec and 5% Petit Verdot blend from River Stone Estate Winery’s River Rock Vineyards. The 2016 vintage was aged 18 months in French oak barriques, one-third new oak. Beautifully balanced, luxurious on the palate with dark berry, dried wild herbs, savoury spice, dark chocolate and coffee flavours smooth on the palate, medium-plus-bodied, medium rounded tannins, very approachable now, but could cellar for another three years.

Wine grapes are hand-harvested with 80% of the grapes left whole and uncrushed. Grapes are cold soaked up to five days and then fermented in both stainless steel tanks and small fermentation totes to maximize skin contact. Paired with slow-braised beef prime ribs.

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a feisty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
