Natalie's Score: 91/100

This robust Spanish red wine is a blend of 90% Tempranillo and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon grapes that was aged for 24 months in French oak barrels. It has a firm grip on the palate it offers more earthy, smoky, dusty aromas and flavours than fruit-forward ones. Complex, elegant and mature. Dry and subtle, with tanned leather and cigar box. This Spanish DO wine finishes with dry tobacco and cedar. Decant for 1 hour and pair with lamb and rosemary.

Food pairings: rack of lamb, rib eye steak, pork crown roast.

Reviews and Ratings

Balbás Reserva 2006 is a full-bodied Spanish red wine from the Ribera Del Duero wine region made with mostly Tempranillo and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. Lots of blackberry and blueberry flavours on the palate, grippy with earthy, smoky and dusty herbs. Great structure, balance and vibrant acidity for food. Drink now and for the next five years. Pair with smoked pork tacos. - Community Wine Reviews

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a fiesty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
