Reviews and Ratings

Brent Gushowaty rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

The wine is pale with a ripe cherry rim. The nose shows an abundance of complex, ripe berry fruits including Marionberry, boysenberry, red currant and the typical blueberry notes of Cowichan Valley pinot noirs. With this pinot it is " as on the nose, so on the palate", complex berry fruit with good intensity and a medium minus body. One of the things I enjoy about drinking good Burgundy is the way that it can taste fairly simple initially but reveal its qualities and complexities in the second half and the finish. That is the case with this 2015 Alderlea. In the end the wine is silky and nimble with long, lingering notes of savoury pomegranate, boysenberry, raspberry and Marionberry. The finish is long, elegant and supple.

The 2015 vintage in the Cowichan Valley was a good ripe one. At Alderea it was so favourable and the resulting fruit of such quality that instead of also producing a Reserve wine as they usually do in exceptional years , there is just one 2015 wine, so effectively it is all Reserve and a great bargain.

Alderlea Vineyards is an eight acre vineyard that includes pinot noir, located just North of Duncan in the Cowichan Valley on Vancouver Island. It was planted in 1994 by the owner and winemaker Roger Dosman (fourth oldest winery and second oldest pinot noir plantings on Vancouver Island). The winery opened in 1998. All wines are made from estate fruit. The clones here are twenty-three year old Alsace clones 93 and 538 along with more recent Dijon clones 113,115,667 and 777. The vineyards are on a South facing gentle rise about a half kilometer up from Quamichan Lake at height of
approximately 60 meters.

This wine was made by Roger Dosman. In early 2017 Alderlea Vineyards changed hands. The new proprietors and winemakers are Zachary Brown and Julie Powell.
