Montes Purple Angel 2018, Colchagua Valley D.O., Chile: Montes Purple Angel is a cult classic. The 2018 vintage of this elegant, medium-plus-bodied red blend of 92% Carmenère and 8% Petit Verdot is a little lighter, still elegant, bright and silky with fresh blackberry, plum, cassis, dried herbs and a hint of smoke. Tannins are rich and smooth. Grapes are sourced from the Apalta and Marchigüe areas. During the 18 months of barrel aging, the wine is racked three times to remove the lees and to allow some oxygen in for maturation of this wine. Good now, better in 2023 or cellar to 2030. Drink: 2023-2030. 62364 14.50% XD 750 mL $105.95 Score: 98/100. February 19, 2022

Miraval Rosé 2015, Côtes De Provence, Provence A.P., France: The 2015 vintage is even better than 2014, and I loved that one. This wine doesn't need to ride on the back of Brad and Angelina's celebrity: it stands alone as a terrific, refreshing rose with aromas of small field strawberries, orange zest and light spices. Should I add though that there's a hint of drama on the nose, with a surprise twist finish? Sure to be a box office hit at your liquor store. Bottled Hollywood style in a lovely, shapely vessel. Lovely ballet slipper pink hue. Finishes floral and elegant. Pair with oysters and movie night. Drink: 2015-2017. 342584 13% XD 750 mL $22.95 Score: 93/100. January 8, 2017

Xavier Vignon Châteauneuf-Du-Pape 2011, Rhone A.C., France: Plush black plum aromas give this wine a luscious mouth-filling character and juiciness before an incoming tide of peppered darker fruit that creates a lovely bite. Full-bodied and voluptuous. Drink now if you decant for 2 hours or hold it in your cellar for a decade or more. Incredible richness, depth and concentration. Demands hearty meat dishes. This is a blend of 65% Grenache and the remainder equal parts Mourvèdre and Syrah grapes. Loaded with purple and black plums and liquorice on the finish.
