Peter Lehmann The Barossan Shiraz 2022, Barossa, South Australia, Australia: Peter Lehmann The Barossan Shiraz 2022 delivers bold character without bruising your wallet—rich and juicy for just $21.95. This Barossa red brims with ripe black cherries, cassis, and a whisper of smoked herbs, unfolding into notes of clove, mocha, and vanilla from a generous swirl in the glass. It's velvety but not flabby, with a backbone of spice that gives it both power and polish. Pair it with pulled pork tacos, a mushroom ragù over creamy polenta, or aged cheddar for a fireside nibble. Peter Lehmann’s legacy is blended into every drop—he famously stood by Barossa’s growers when no one else would, turning excess grapes into iconic wines that now carry the story of resilience and regional pride. Tread Softly Pinot Grigio 2024, South Australia, Australia: Not only are Tread Softly wines certified sustainable and bottled in lightweight glass, but they also plant a tree for every case sold. So far, they’ve planted 2.5 million trees, the equivalent of taking 35,000 cars off the road. The Pinot Grigio is crisp and refreshing with notes of green apple and lime zest. It's lighter in alcohol than many Australian wines, but still full of character. I'd pair it with a gentle-beginnings seafood ceviche where delicate pieces of fresh scallops and snapper are lightly "cooked" in lime juice, tossed with crisp cucumber, ripe avocado, and fragrant cilantro that together match the wine's bright, clean profile.
