Brickyard Riesling 2012, Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario V.Q.A., Canada: Lots of mouth-watering acidity and sweetness in this medium-bodied white. Lovely pear and peach notes. Cries out for food such as seafood. This wine is named for the original pioneers in this region who were the only ones to see value in the rugged clay landscape: brick producers. Redstone Winery Limestone Vineyard South Riesling 2012, Twenty Mile Bench, Niagara, Ontario V.Q.A., Canada: A spectacular Riesling founded by one of Niagara's best producers Tawse. This is the first Redstone Riesling release from the south block of the Limestone Vineyard, a 14-year-old sustainably farmed block on Twenty Mile Bench. The 2012 vintage was warm and it shows in the pure fruit intensity and laser focus of this wine: white peach, lime zest and a deep core of minerality. I almost don't believe how low the alcohol is at 10% for the staggering amount of flavour packed in here. Have mercy, it's fantastic.
