The Foreign Affair Winery Dream 2016, Niagara Peninsula, Ontario V.Q.A., Canada: From the Niagara wine region, The Foreign Affair's Dream 2016 is a juicy, succulent, full-bodied red blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Petit Verdot grapes, 15% of which are dried for four months in appassimento style prior to fermentation. The final blend was aged in French, American and Hungarian oak barrels for one year. Ripe dark cherries, blackberry, fruit cake and sweet tobacco flavours fill the palate. Tannins are firm. A beautifully balanced, fragrant Cab with smoky, dark chocolate and nutty aromas. Inky in the glass, full-bodied with firm tannins, ripe dark fruit, fine herb, savoury spice, smoky and a long dark chocolate finish. The 2017 vintage is a big and beautiful Cab with rich tannins. J. Bouchon Block Series Carmenère 2017, Maule Valley, Chile: From the Maule Valley J. Bouchon Block Series 2017 Carmenère is excellent value under $18. Look for ripe cherry, red plum, red berry fruit and herbal notes on this smooth and concentrated Chilean Carmenère. Grapes for this wine were dry-farmed and the wine was aged for 12 months in a combination of foudres and barrels. Tannins are fine and velvety. The Aletejo pig featured on the front of the bottle wanders freely in the region's oak forests, feasting on a diet rich in acorns. It's native to Europe and the only species of grazing pig Europe.
