Primus The Blend Alto Casablanca Cabernet Sauvignon Syrah Merlot Carmenere 2012, Colchagua Valley, Chile: Juicy-wonderful! This full-bodied Chilean red wine is just dripping with fleshy berry flavor and plums with some real vibrancy and lift on the mid-palate. I love it! This wine is a blend of about a third cabernet sauvignon, a third syrah, and the balance split between merlot and carmenere grapes. Superb craftsmanship; great value. Judicious use of oak has a toasty weave throughout the wine. Balanced acidity and polished tannins, but the dark fruit power and energy leads in the glass. Pair with prime rib. Drink: 2013-2017. 712463 14.50% XD 750 mL  $19.95 Score: 91/100. April 18, 2015 Top Rated Red Wine. Plush Pork Wine Full Review
Mayu Gran Reserva Carmenère 2013, Elqui Valley, Coquimbo, Chile: Big smoky, mocha aromas with generous layers of luscious black fruit on the palate. Terrific price for such quality. Carmenère is the flagship grape of Chile, and it shows in this glass. There's a lovely weave of dried tobacco and espresso on the finish. Decant 1-2 hours and enjoy with a hearty meat dish. Pair with meat lovers' pizza. Drink: 2013-2017. 90035 15% D 750 mL  $19.95 Score: 91/100. April 18, 2015 Top Rated Red Wine. Best Beef Wine Full Review
Gérard Bertrand Grand Terroir La Clape Syrah Carignan Mourvèdre 2013, Midi A.P., France: The grapes for this French red wine blend are planted closer to the Mediterranean sea and therefore there are more spice accents in the finished wine along with red fruits, lavender and pepper. The vines are planted at an altitude of 200 metres above sea level, which preserves their freshness with cool nights. The soils consist of limestone plateau that's thousands of years old. The finish has moorland accents. Pair with rosemary lamb. Although the Languedoc is the world's largest wine region with 235,000 acres, it is not one homogenous mass or style wine-wise. There are actually 5 sub-climates and more than 50 different grapes used in varying blends. Compare that to the 5 grapes used in Bordeaux. There are also 8 different and distinctive winds that blow through the vines here as compared to one in the Rhone, the Mistral. Drink: 2016-2019. 370262 14% XD 750 mL  $19.95 Score: 93/100. Château D'aquéria Jean Olivier, Prod. Rosé 2010, A.C., Tavel, Rhône, France: Vintages Wine Panel: Tavel, an AC located across the Rhône River from Châteauneuf-du-Pape, uniquely makes rosé wines its exclusive focus. This version offers up fresh strawberry, sweet cherry, rosehips, and spring flowers in abundance. Dry, light bodied, fresh and tangy on the palate with waves of vivacious acidity. The lingering finish sports a strawberry-rhubarb character embroidered by herbal and floral notes. My note: Such a perfect rosé. Don’t be a snob with the price: this is a seriously great wine. I could drink rose almost all year: it’s packed with flavour yet not heavy tannin or oak or alcohol so it goes with almost any dish except a big juicy steak. Join us!
