Ondarre Reserva 2015, Rioja D.O.C.A., Spain: Wow. This is a big, smoky, toasty Rioja red blend of 85% Tempranillo, 10% Garnacha and 5% Mazuelo wine grapes aged in American and French oak barrels. Dark berries, cherries with dried sweet tobacco leaf, dark spices, chocolate and smoky vanilla flavours on the palate. Tannins are firm. Ondarre is located in the town of Viana, about eight kilometres from Logroño, it is part of Bodegas Olarra Group founded in 1973 and has since been known as the Cathedral of La Rioja.
