Trapiche Iscay Malbec Cabernet Franc 2011, Mendoza , Argentina: The spectacular 2011 vintage of this blockbuster Argentine red wine is a blend of 65% Malbec and 35% Cabernet Franc grown in the estate vineyards of Russell, Maipu and Los Arboles, Uco Valley, Mendoza. Iscay means two or couple representing the two grapes in the blend. The Malbec contributes juicy red fruit, structure and minerality from the Uco Valley. The Cabernet Franc fruit from the Russell Vineyard is a warmer region contributing sweet red pepper and spice. Trapiche Terroir Series Finca Ambrosia Single Vineyard Malbec 2013, Mendoza, Argentina: Made from 100% Malbec grapes grown in the Gualtallany, Tupungato regions of Mendoza planted at 1307 metres above sea level in calcium carbonate soils. Gualtallany is an increasingly fashionable region within the Mendoza as the fruit there develops rich polyphenols in the skins: colour, flavour and tannin character. Aromas of black fruit, smoke, pencil led and anise with great minerality. The wine was aged for 19 months in French oak barrels. This wine is suggested to those studying for the Master of Wine exam as one of the best examples of Argentine Malbec.
