Schild Estate Grenache Mourvèdre Shiraz 2014, Barossa Valley, South Australia, Australia: Oh yum. Comfort me with mourvèdre and other old bush vine grapes. Rich, complex and deep Australian red wine: exactly what you want in a partner (and in a wine). Full-bodied and smooth and inviting. The Schild family has been in the Barossa Valley for more than 60 years. Lots of complexity, depth and vibrancy in this richly rewarding wine. This is a blend of 45% Grenache, 28% Mourvèdre and 27% Shiraz grapes. Pair with brisket. Drink: 2016-2020. 108183 14.50% XD 750 mL  $19.95 Score: 93/100. September 2, 2017 Best Value Red Wine. De bortoli Gulf Station Chardonnay 2016, Yarra Valley, Victoria, Australia: Savoury and juicy, and perfectly balanced and vibrant Australian Chardonnay. The "G.S." on the label stands for Gulf Station, and the grapes are grown in premium parcels of vineyards planted in the Yarra Valley. Seductive smoke and toast on the nose is cut through with a shaft of lemon brightness and polish. Full-bodied and lovely. Drink: 2016-2019. 238071 12.50% XD 750 mL  $19.95 Score: 92/100. September 2, 2017 Best Value White Wine. Scrumptious Seafood Wine Full Review
Wits End Luna Shiraz 2015, Mclaren Vale, South Australia, Australia: This blockbuster Australian Shiraz is made from grapes grown in the cool McLaren Vale, and made more interesting with a splash of Barbera grapes in the blend. Attractive aromas of blackberry and black current on the nose and palate of this dry, full-bodied wine. Savoury and meaty, yet also juicy. This wine packs a flavour punch. Pair with prime rib. Drink: 2016-2021. 311258 14.50% XD 750 mL  $17.95 Score: 91/100. September 16, 2017 Best Value Red Wine. Best Beef Wine Full Review
Montes Purple Angel 2014, Colchagua Valley, Chile: There's a reason this Chilean wine has a cult following. Purple Angel will make you feel as though you've gone to heaven aloft a cloud of sensory pleasure. The 2014 vintage is a blend of 92% Caménère and 8% Petit Verdot grapes. Caménère was re-discovered only about 12 years ago, believed to be extinct after phylloxera hit its ancestral home in Bordeaux in 1880. That's why it's also called the "Jurassic Park" grape. The vines for this wine are planted on steep slopes. If you love full-bodied, juicy, fruit-forward wines, this is your apogee as it also has all of those other great hallmarks of superb wine: complexity, balance and finish. Pair with a juicy steak. Drink: 2017-2023. 62364 14.50% XD 750 mL  $95.95 Score: 99/100. September 30, 2017 Top Rated Red Wine. Glorious Game Wine Full Review

Hamilton Russell Chardonnay 2016, Hemel-En-Aarde Valley, Walker Bay W.O., South Africa: Hamilton Russel Vineyards sees the strongest maritime influence of any winegrowing area in South Africa. At less than two kilometres from the Atlantic Ocean's Walker Bay, the cooling influence of the cold Benguela current flowing up from Antarctica flows over the vineyard with the prevailing southeast winds allowing for cooler days but warmer nights and warmer winters. The overall climate is Mediterranean. A chardonnay lover's chardonnay. Rich, concentrated and hedonistic, yet with a nervy edge in this South African Chardonnay. A concentrated vein of tree fruit and minerality. Perfectly balanced between luscious ripe peach and green apple, toasty oak and a nervy seam of acidity for a range of dishes, from roast chicken to seafood. Highly recommended.
