Southbrook Vineyards Triomphe Cabernet Sauvignon 2013, Niagara-On-The-Lake, Ontario VQA, Canada: Juicy and savoury, yet with a deliciously attractive note of fleshy sweet blackberry on the nose and palate. This full-bodied, dry red wine is Ontario's leading organic and biodynamic winery hands down. Beautifully supple and rich with a long finish. Pair with a rare juicy steak from grass fed cattle. Drink: 2014-2019. 193573 12.60% D 750 mL $22.95 Score: 91/100. September 15, 2015

Quails' Gate Estate Winery Old Vines Foch Reserve 2013, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia BC V.Q.A., Canada: Smoky rich with mocha and dark chocolate: reminds of me those luscious coffee-styled Pinotages from South Africa. Old Vines Foch is worth exploring: it's a hybrid grape rather than vinifera, but it has a lot to offer, especially in the hands of a masterful winemaker like Quail's Gate. Pair with prime rib. Drink: 2014-2019. 14.50% D 750 mL $24.95 Score: 90/100. December 31, 2015
