Featherstone Four Feathers 2012, Niagara Peninsula, Ontario V.Q.A., Canada: A absolutely happy, lovely wine with fresh white floral aromas just after a spring rain. This blend is mostly riesling, but also has sauvignon blanc, gewurztraminer and a tiny bit of chardonnay. It's incredible for the price and would make the ultimate summer aperitif on the deck or at parties. Drink: 2012-2017. 341586 11% M 750 mL $15.95 Score: 89/100. March 7, 2015

Quails' Gate Estate Winery Old Vines Foch Reserve 2013, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia BC V.Q.A., Canada: Smoky rich with mocha and dark chocolate: reminds of me those luscious coffee-styled Pinotages from South Africa. Old Vines Foch is worth exploring: it's a hybrid grape rather than vinifera, but it has a lot to offer, especially in the hands of a masterful winemaker like Quail's Gate. Pair with prime rib. Drink: 2014-2019. 14.50% D 750 mL $24.95 Score: 90/100. December 31, 2015
