Château des Charmes St. David's Bench Vineyard Gamay Noir 2016, St. David's Bench, Niagara-On-The-Lake, Ontario V.Q.A., Canada: The vines for this wine are planted on the side of ancient limestone slopes of the St. David's Bench Vineyard in glacial soils located furthest from the cooling temperatures of Lake Ontario and therefore benefiting from warmer temperatures and longer ripening. d'Arenberg The Footbolt Shiraz 2014, Mclaren Vale, South Australia, Australia: Meaty, savoury and lip-smacking delicious! Enticing eucalyptus and blackberry aromas in this full-bodied, smooth Australian red wine. Sure to please even the most hardened cabernet fan. Loaded with concentrated dark red fruit flavours on the finish, along with a spice kick. This robust red wine was not fined or filtered. Pair with meat lovers pizza. The palate of this big Australian Shiraz offers lots of black fruit and smoke. This wine was matured for 12-18 months in a combination of French and American oak. Fermentation was stopped two-thirds of the way through and juice was not filtered. "Footbolt" is named in honour of the racehorse that founder Joseph Osborn had to sell in order to start the d'Arenberg winery in 1912. Since 1912, the Osborn family has farmed vineyards in the McLaren Vale. Winemaker Chester Osborn takes small batches of grapes that are crushed then transferred to open fermenters and then foot treading is undertaken. Concentrated, rich and deep. Produced by Famille Laplace at Château d'Aydie, this robust southern French red is a blend of 70% Tannat and 30% cabernet sauvignon grapes that was partially barrel aged. A nice long finish. Primitivo from Italy, like this one, and Zinfandel from California are the same grapes. Pair with meat lovers' pizza or hamburgers. A racy, spicy Italian red wine made from Primitivo grapes. Primitivo and California Zinfandel have been proven scientifically to be genetically identical. The heart of Primitivo production is in the southern Italian region of Puglia in the southeast corner of Italy's "boot" which has a Mediterranean climate and cool ocean breezes. Clos du Bois Calcaire Chardonnay 2014, Russian River Valley, Sonoma County, California, United States: Calcaire refers to the calcareous soils in which these vines are planted and are famous in France. Lots of minerality as a result. The grapes for this Californian Chardonnay were hand harvested, hand-sorted and whole-cluster pressed. Only free-run and soft-pressed juice is used, which is the freshest and best quality juice. The wine was barrel fermented in 60% new French oak barrels before malolactic fermentation and aged sur lie. Buttery-rich and mouth-filling with aromas of ripe peach, pear and apple.
