Scorched Earth Winery Pask Pinot Noir 2014, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, Canada: A rich and full-bodied Pinot Noir with grapes sourced from the winery's estate organic vineyard. Aromas of black cherry and smoke. Absolutely delicious! Robust for Pinot, but balanced. The grapes were hand-picked and hand-sorted. The wine was aged in French oak barrels, of which 30% was new. There were only 200 cases of this wine produced, so get it quickly directly from the winery. Pair with meaty fish such as salmon, tuna and trout. Scorched Earth Winery Pask Merlot 2014, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, Canada: A full-bodied and supple BC Merlot with a velvet texture on the tongue. Aromas of fleshy black plums and dark spice. Pask is the combination of the first letter of the names of the family: Peter, Anita, Shae and Kiana. The Merlot grapes were grown in the Oliver region of the Okanagan Valley and were hand-picked, sorted and de-stemmed. The wine was aged in French oak barrels, of which 50% was new. San Pedro 1865 Single Vineyard Carmenere 2015, Maule Valley, Chile: Another stellar vintage for this single vineyard Carmenere rocks! Carmenere is the flagship red wine of Chile. Loving the layers of fleshy black plums. Lots of concentration and length. Velvet texture on the palate. The wines from San Pedro's 1865 line come from its own vineyard planted with a specific variety. The Carmenere comes from the winery's property in the Maule Valley, with rolling hillside vineyards averaging 20 years of age and planted in alluvial soil with angular stones to control plant vigour. This robust red wine finishes with notes of cassis and dried tobacco. Great balance and depth. Try it with a rack of lamb tonight. Highly recommended.
