This wine is deep, dark and concentrated, a great expression of its terroir and an exceptional value for the price. Spicy finish. Decant 1-2 hours. Pair with a rare steak. Château Grand Barrail Lamarzelle Figeac 2011, Saint-Émilion, Bordeaux A.C., France: Although the 2011 vintage was a challenging one in Bordeaux, this producer succeeds. Aromas of wild violets, dark fruit and smoke on the nose and palate of this well-structured Bordeaux red wine blend. The vines are planted in deep, long soils of clay and limestone close to the vineyards of Chateau Cheval Blanc. The district is known as "Graves de Saint-Emilion" or Saint-Emilion stones. Great delicacy, complexity and length on the finish. Chateau Reysson 2014, Haut-Medoc, Bordeaux, France: Cru Bourgeois is the mark of a quality appellation within Bordeaux, and it shows in this terrific 2014 red wine. The vines for this robust red are planted in the Medoc where the soils have been eroded to the point where there is no soil, but only gravel, which provides excellent drainage to make those vines suffer and produce small grapes or berries of great concentration in flavour. This is mostly Merlot in the blend with some Cabernet Franc. Pair with prime rib. Essence De Dourthe 2010, Bordeaux, France: I'm running out of superlatives for this wine: it's a blockbuster with everything, complexity, depth, length and finesse. It's actually made from a blend of grapes in various Bordeaux regions that are not usually blended together. The strategy is to showcase the very best of what each Bordeaux terroir can product such as Merlot from St Emilion, Cabernet Sauvignon from Medoc and so on. Think of it as a Super Tuscan that's Bordeaux bred. This is why you won't see a appellation designation on the bottle: it rises above them all to become something in and of itself. Drink: 2018 - 2035 653261 13.5% XD 750 mL $300.00 Score: 98/100. April 2017. Top Rated Red Wine Full Review Add to Shopping Cart

La Terrasse De La Garde 2013, Pessac-Léognan, Bordeaux, France: This is the second wine for the prestigious Chateau La Garde, which takes only 50% of production so that even the second wine is remarkable and certainly of great value. Attractive smoky nose and black fruit and toasty oak on the palate. The vines are planted in gravel soils which creates a more structured wine, rather than a fat one. There are only 2.5 hectares planted for this small production wine. Needs cellar time then decant 1-2 hours and pair with a rare steak. Drink: 2018 - 2025 13.5% XD 750 mL $25.00 Score: 91/100. April 2017. Top Rated Red Wine Full Review Add to Shopping Cart
