Red Wine
Squealing Pig Pinot Noir 2023, Marlborough, New Zealand: Restaurant lists and home gatherings alike are where this crowd-pleaser belongs. Central Otago and Marlborough both enter into the blend, which explains the extra lift. Redcurrant and a whisper of five-spice show through the glass. The mouth is soft and gentle, with juicy acidity and barely-there tannins. Lamb chops with rosemary and garlic or a rich rabbit fricassee are the kind of company it keeps best. Pinot Noir food pairings: veal chops in red wine sauce, lamb chops with rosemary and garlic, rabbit fricassee. Drink: 2026 - 2030 427211 13% XD 750 mL $24.95 Score: 93/100. Sparkling Wine
Bon Courage Estate Jacques Bruere Cap Classique 2013, South Africa: Bon Courage has crafted traditional-method sparklers in South Africa's Robertson Valley since 1927, and this one has real personality. Brunch dishes or grilled chicken, chilled down, are the wine's best friends. Food pairings: brunch dishes, grilled chicken, halibut steaks sauteed in lemon butter.
