Borgo Scopeto Borgonero 2022, Tuscany, Italy: Borgo Scopeto blends three grapes for this Borgonero, farmed on a Tuscan estate whose history stretches back nearly a thousand years to a fortified hilltop settlement. Dark plum and black currant carry a floral, chalky lift. Velvety tannin gives the wine a polished, focused feel. Warm sandalwood turns up at the very end. Bachelder Les Villages Bench Chardonnay 2024, Niagara Escarpment, Niagara Peninsula, Ontario V.Q.A., Canada: Thomas Bachelder has made Chardonnay in Burgundy, Oregon and Ontario. Les Villages Bench blends fruit from three benches along the escarpment. Pear comes first, followed by fennel. The acidity is bright and focused. Pork tenderloin wrapped in puff pastry makes an elegant dinner with it. It's a village wine in the Burgundian mould that crossed an ocean.
