White Wine
Staete Landt Annabel Sauvignon Blanc 2024, Marlborough, South Island, New Zealand: Staete Landt's Annabel Sauvignon Blanc from Marlborough, South Island is a highly perfumed, medium-bodied white wine offering notes of passion fruit, lime zest, snow pea, and grapefruit pith. This dry, sustainably grown wine shows a sharply defined palate and impressive concentration that will continue to evolve over the next three years.
Serve it well chilled with pan-fried lemon sole, where the wine’s brisk acidity brightens the delicate fish, or pair it with green salads topped with herbed goat cheese, as its lively personality offsets the tangy cheese. Winemaker Ruud Maasdam crafts this irresistibly drinkable wine from estate grapes, revealing nectarine, mandarin peel, and subtle white tea nuances alongside fresh-cut herb vibrancy on the long, juicy finish.
A faint almond meal note adds appealing texture. This energetic, versatile Sauvignon Blanc represents outstanding quality and will drink beautifully through 2029. Red Wine
Two Sisters Eleventh Post 2020, Ontario V.Q.A., Canada: Two Sisters Vineyards Eleventh Post from Ontario's Niagara River sub-appellation is a vibrant, medium to full-bodied red offering aromas of tart red currant, wild strawberry, and hints of graphite. It's dry with fine-grained tannins and lively acidity. Serve it slightly below room temperature with grilled lamb chops as the wine's energetic fruit and mineral backbone will enhance the meat's savory richness beautifully, or pair it with aged Gruyère cheese where the wine's structured tannins and persistent finish will complement the cheese's nutty complexity perfectly. Winemaker Adam Pearce, working alongside winemaker Emily Royal, crafts this wine from grapes grown exclusively on the estate vineyard within the unique Niagara River sub-appellation, aging the components separately in 70% French and 30% American oak (15% new) for approximately 30 months before blending. Founded by sisters Angela Marotta and Melissa Marotta-Paolicelli, who planted their first vines in 2007 after falling in love with Niagara-on-the-Lake during childhood visits, Two Sisters Vineyards earned the prestigious title "Best Small Winery in Canada" and the 2020 Eleventh Post captured a Gold Medal at the renowned Decanter World Wine Awards in 2025. Enjoy now or cellar for 5-8 years. Food pairings: grilled lamb chops, aged Gruyère cheese, roasted duck breast. Drink: 2026 - 2034 50106 14.5% XD 750 mL $48.00 Score: 96/100. February 2026.
