Château des Charmes 2023, St. David's Bench, Niagara ON The Lake, Ontario V.Q.A., Canada: From St. David's Bench, Niagara on the Lake wine region, Château des Charmes 2023 is a vegan-friendly white wine produced from sustainably grown Old Vines Savagnin. Rarely planted outside of Jura in France, here it is made into a Vin Jaune (yellow wine) at several wineries: Rosewood, Big Head, Burning Kiln and Megalomania. Savagnin is a hardy grape variety and suited to Canadian winters. Grapes for this Savagnin were sourced from vines planted in 1993. Look for aromas of white peach, quince, melon, pineapple, citrus zest and flinty mineral, stoney flavours textured on the palate. Food pairings: Comte cheese, rich risottos, wild mushroom bisque.
