Anselmann Ortega Beerenauslese 2020, Pfalz Prädikatswein, Germany: From the Pfalz wine region, Anselmann 2020 Ortega Beerenauslese is a lushly sweet dessert wine (134 g/l residual sugar) produced from the Ortega grape and a perfect size (375 ml) as an aperitif to pair with foie gras or as an after dinner treat with blue-veined cheeses. Rich on the nose with ripe apricot, peach and ripe orchard fruit aromas; full and unctuous on the palate, balanced with brilliant acidity and a deliciously long finish. This vintage was awarded Gold at the 2021 Vinalies Internationales. The first records of the Anselmann family date back to 1126, and their history in viticulture is at least 450 years old. Lustau Palo Cortado Peninsula Solera Familiar Dry Sherry, Jerez D.O., Spain: From world renown producer, Lustau, Solera Familiar is a non-vintage Palo Cortado Peninsula Solera Reserva produced from the Palomino wine grape. Dry and complex with layers of dried apricot, roasted nuts, chocolate, espresso, fine herbs and oxidative notes (in a good way). Palo cortado sherries start out as finos, but lose their protective cover of flor so they age oxidatively. Lustau was founded by Don Jose Ruiz-Bodejo in 1896. After his death in 1930, the operation was moved to Jerez and it was Ruiz-Bodejo's son-in-law who established the Lustau Solera Reserva wines.
