Lustau Palo Cortado Peninsula Solera Familiar Dry Sherry, Jerez D.O., Spain: From world renown producer, Lustau, Solera Familiar is a non-vintage Palo Cortado Peninsula Solera Reserva produced from the Palomino wine grape. Dry and complex with layers of dried apricot, roasted nuts, chocolate, espresso, fine herbs and oxidative notes (in a good way). Palo cortado sherries start out as finos, but lose their protective cover of flor so they age oxidatively. Lustau was founded by Don Jose Ruiz-Bodejo in 1896. After his death in 1930, the operation was moved to Jerez and it was Ruiz-Bodejo's son-in-law who established the Lustau Solera Reserva wines. Sherry food pairings: roasted nuts, Manchego cheese, seafood tapas, roast pheasant, meat patés. Drink: 2023 - 2025 748798 19% D 750 mL $37.95 Score: 90/100. February 2023.
