Finca Flichman Reserva Malbec 2007, Argentina, Argentina: Deep, rich, ripe purple and dark plums mingle with blackberries and dark spices. Supple, robust and smooth, this wine delivers lots of quaffable flavor and pleasure. Perfect for casual get-togethers. This wine will be available in the Vintages August 15 release, though you may find it elsewhere before then. Malbec food pairings: steak. Cuvelier Los Andes Coleccion Malbec Merlot Cabernet Sauvignon Syrah Petit Verdot 2006, Mendoza, Argentina: Excellent structure and complexity with aromas of blackberry, cassis, blackcurrant. Mouth-filling and full-bodied with a good grip. A blend of 60% Malbec, 10% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Syrah and 5% Petit Verdot. About 60% of the wine was aged in French oak barrels for one year. Decant for 1-2 hours. Cuvelier Los Andes Grand Vin Malbec Merlot Cabernet Sauvignon Syrah 2006, Mendoza, Argentina: Big black fruit come first with aromas of blackcurrant, cassis, black raspberry, then a supple texture on the palate with a good grip from the polished tannins. Decant for 1-2 hours but try again first. Full-bodied and rich. A blend of 70% Malbec, 10% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Syrah. All of this wine was aged in French oak barrels for 15 months. Flechas De Los Andes Grand Malbec 2006, Mendoza, Argentina: This wine is a joint effort between the famous winemaking family of Bordeaux, Rothschild, and the aircraft maker Dessault. It is also one of the wineries involved in Michel Rolland's project called Clos de los Siete. Half of the wine was aged in French oak for one year. It displays lovely notes of black plums and berries. About 80,000 bottles were produced. Decant for 1-2 hours. Lindaflor Monteviejo Winery Malbec 2004, Mendoza, Argentina: An opulent wine with rich, deep layers of plush black plums, black cherry and smoke. Soft tannins give a generous, satin texture. Trivento Reserve Malbec Syrah 2007, Mendoza, Argentina: Deep, dark and rich, this brooding blend of Malbec (50%) and Syrah (50%) has dive-into-it aromas of blackberries, coffee, dark chocolate and smoke. The wine was aged for 8 months in French oak. Full-bodied but not heavy, wonderful concentration of flavor. Trivento Golden Reserve Syrah 2006, Mendoza, Argentina: A mocha-rich nose is followed by red berry marmalade, coffee, cinnamon, dried tobacco leaves and plum. Chewy and meaty with loads of flavor and depth. Great acidity. Aged in French (90%) and American (10%) oak for 12 months. Trivento Eolo Malbec 2006, Mendoza, Argentina: Rich and complex with a river of satiny flavor rippling across your palate. This blend of 98% Malbec and 2% Syrah has inviting aromas of black fruit, mocha and smoke. This wine is named for Eolo, the Greek god of the winds. It was aged for 16 months in new French oak. Decants for 1-2 hours, but better yet, give it a few more years. Malbec food pairings: blood sausage, rare sirloin steak. Catena Alta Malbec 2006, Mendoza, Argentina: A rich river of velvet flavor flows across your mouth: try not to gulp this wine too quickly (regret is an empty bottle). Aromas of black plum, mocha and dark berries. Great length and depth. This wine was aged for 18 months in new French oak. A benchmark wine on a planetary scale. Salentein Reserve Pinot Noir 2008, Mendoza, Argentina: Love this wine! A cherry river of flavor is balanced by excellent acidity and structure.
