Werner Anselmann Gewürztraminer Kabinett 2019, Pfakz Prädikatswein, Germany: From the Pfalz wine region, Werner Anselmann 2019 Gewürztraminer Kabinett is produced by the Anselmann family who have been involved with viticulture for centuries, but it was in 1959 that Werner Anselmann founded this winery. Excellent value under $18, this Gew is off-dry, fresh and fragrant with lychee, rose petal, ginger, anise and sweet spice aromas and flavours on the palate. Barton & Guestier Château Magnol 2016, Haut-Médoc, Bordeaux A.C., France: A Cru Bourgeois (classified in 1987) with grapes sourced from the left bank of the Gironde estuary in the Haut-Médoc, Bordeaux wine region. Earthy on the nose with ripe dark berries, cassis, savoury herb flavours and well-integrated toasty oak spice, luxurious and silky on the palate. Decant for one hour prior to pouring with a grilled rib eye steak or hold in cellar for a couple of years when it should be drinking at its best.
