San Pedro 1865 Tayú Pinot Noir 2019, Buchahueico, Malleco Valley D.O., Chile: From Buchahueico, Malleco Valley wine region, San Pedro 1865 Tayú 2019 Pinot Noir is brought to us from The Mapuche, which means “people of the land”. "Tayu" means “Ours” in Mapudungun and the making of this wine is based on their understanding of the grape and based on a traditional approach. Dry, medium-bodied and fragrant on the nose with bright cherry, spice and herbal aromas of Chilean wild herbs, paico and boldo, as well as mint. Finishes long with brilliant acidity. Tannins are firm. Pinot Noir food pairings: lamb chops, veal cutlets, turkey tournedos, chicken from the grill, roast Cornish game hen. Viña Tarapacá Gran Reserva 145th Anniversary Special Edition 2019, Maipo Valley, Chile: From the Maipo Valley, Tarapacá Gran Reserva 2019 is a 145th Anniversary Special Edition blend of 64% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Cabernet Franc, and 16% Syrah sourced from vineyards planted on the granitic hillsides at the Tarapacá property in Isla de Maipo. Dry, medium-plus-bodied with juicy acidity and lots of bright dark berry, red berry, cherry fruit, savoury herbs, pepper spice flavours on the palate. The wine is still quite youthful and there are many years to go before it starts to show its best. Drink or hold. Food pairings: juicy pork chops, lamb shanks in a rich mushroom sauce, Osso Buco. Brotte Domaine Barville Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2017, Rhône A.C., France: Brotte Domaine Barville 2017 Châteauneuf du Pape is a medium-bodied, lushly layered CNDP produced from mostly Grenache with Syrah and Mourvèdre in support from vines averaging 35 years of age. Smooth and rich with ripe black cherry, dried wild herbs, smoky and spicy on the palate. Tannins are fine-grained and the wine is very approachable now. Drink or Hold. Charles Brotte chose a coat-of-arms based on a typical shield which is adorned with a knight and three roses highlighting the three powers of terroir: earth, climate and the influence of man. Gabriel Meffre Sainte-Catherine Gigondas 2017, Gigondas, Rhône A.C., France: From the Gigondas, Rhône wine region, Gabriel Meffre Sainte-Catherine 2017 is a full-bodied red wine blend of Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache and Cinsault. Juicy with red berry, plum, dried herbs, and toasty oak spice flavours on the palate. Pour with a roast leg of lamb. The Gigondas district was awarded Rhône Cru status in 1971, a very coveted designation. Food pairings: roast leg of lamb, roast crown pork and corn niblets, roast Cornish hens and wild rice. Château d'Aquéria Tavel 2020, Rhône A.C., France: Château d'Aquéria 2020 Tavel is dry, full-bodied Tavel fragrant with sage, lavender, rose petals, dried strawberry and earthy aromas with a soft orange finish on the palate. Produced from mostly Grenache with Clairette, Cinsault, Mourvèdre, Syrah, Bourboulenc and Picpoul added to the mix. Chill and enjoy with grilled salmon . Tavel food pairings: lox and capers, grilled salmon steak, shellfish, fresh fruit, veggies, pasta primavera. Umberto Cesari Liano 2019, Rubicone, Emilia-Romagna I.G.T., Italy: From the Emilia-Romagna wine region, Umberto Cesar Liano 2019 is a dry, medium-bodied, flavourful 70% Chardonnay and 30% Sauvignon Blanc sourced from vines grown in gravelly soils. Elegant with fresh apple, pear, citrus, fine herb, nutty and subtle spice flavours vibrant on the palate. Aged for three months in French oak barrels. Miguel Torres Viña Sol Original 2019, Catalunya D.O., Spain: Miguel Torres Viña Sol Original 2019 is produced from 80% Garnacha Blanca with in 20% Parellada and is just amazing value at $12. Dry, crisp and bright on the palate with summer florals, ripe apple, pear, citrus zest and dried fine herb flavours. Bodegas Torres is a family-owned business of several generations dedicated to the production of wine and brandy that is exported to more than 140 countries worldwide.
