Marqués de Murrieta Finca Ygay Reserva 2016, Rioja D.O.C.A., Spain: Marqués de Murrieta Finca Ygay Reserva 2016 is a full-bodied Tempranillo-driven red wine blend with some Graciano, Mazuelo and Garnacha added in for good measure. The bodega reduced its grapes yields to come up with a more concentrated wine that has been aged in American oak barrels for 19 months. This Reserva is elegant and savoury with dried cherry, fig, dried pink rose petals, cedar spice and smoky flavours on the palate. Drink or hold. Hidden Bench Pinot Noir 2019, Beamsville Bench, Niagara Escarpment, Ontario V.Q.A., Canada: Hidden Bench's estate Pinot Noir comes from select parcels of the winery's three estate vineyards. Lovely on the nose with bright cherry, fresh herb and minerals aromas. Dry and juicy on the palate with vibrant ripe cherry, dried herbs, baking spice and clean mineral flavours on the palate. Great acidity for food. Pair with roast turkey or Cornish game hens. Pinot Noir food pairings: veal medallions, lamb in a red wine sauce, roasted pork loin, Tourtière, prime rib roasted. Gérard Bertrand An 806 Grenache Syrah Mourvèdre 2018, Corbières, Languedoc A.P., France: Gérard Bertrand 2018 Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre is a full-bodied and silky GSM from the Corbières, Languedoc wine region. Supple and smooth on the palate with ripe dark fruit, blueberry, plum, cedar brush and smoky pepper spice flavours vibrant on the palate. Drinking beautiful now, but could easily cellar for two- three years. Enjoy with a sausage and bean casserole. Grenache Syrah Mourvèdre food pairings: meat lover's pizza, chicken mole, roast duck.
