L.J. scored this wine: 92/100

Deep purple coloured wine, full body and smooth in the mouth, dry, medium+ acidity, medium + tannin and flavour and aroma of black pepper, green pepper and dark cherry. Excellent with Cuban beef empanadas, roast beef, olive ciabatta and old cheddar and a range of chocolate; Cadbury dark, 70% dark and dark with caramelized cocoa nibs and coffee. A pleasure to drink on its own as well.

Medium ruby coloured wine, dry and flavourful, with medium + acidity and low tannin. Clear flavours and aromas of bright red cherry, wet stone, a lovely earthy tang, red plum and raspberry. Paired nicely with beef slow braised in mushrooms with roasted beets and brussels sprouts on the side. A pleasure to drink with food or on its own.

Villa Conchi Rosé Cava

Catalunya A.C., Spain

L.J. scored this wine: 90/100

Extra effervescent deep pink sparkling wine; the bubbles were very lively! Medium pink rose Cava from Spain, made with Trepat grape. Pronounced strawberry dominant aroma and flavour with honey notes, lemon and citrus pith and other red berries. Off dry with medium plus acidity. Very good with caprese skewers (cherry tomatoes, mini bocconcini, basil leaves, with olive oil and aged balsamic dressing) and cheeses; a real celebration wine.

Very pleasant sparkling wine; medium gold in colour, medium sweet, persistent fine bubbles, and with a pronounced aroma of biscuit, red fruit and citrus. I noticed apple on the palate with a creamy and soft mouth feel. One review had suggested trying this with spicy food like samosas but it overwhelmed the wine. It was excellent with Lemon lime soft goat cheese and Lavender and honey sheep milk cheese; the cheeses complemented the wine nicely. We tried a cranberry goat cheese but it also had some cinnamon in it and that did not work as well. Crisp potato chips went well and also green grapes. A great sparkling wine to pull out for friends!
