Wayne Gretzky winemakers are making sure that Canada is well covered to taste his wines! Not only are there wines made in Niagara, Ontario but the "Great One" has branched out to British Columbia's Okanagan! This is an almost equally balanced dry blend of Cabernet Franc (55%) and Syrah (45%). On the nose there are notes of earth, menthyl, sour cherry, black pepper and black fruit that is fairly ripe. Flavours of sour cherry, black currant and that bite of black pepper. The tannins are smooth with medium acidity and a medium finish. Pair with some bbq sauce slathered ribs and visions of travel to the beautiful Okanagan Valley! Tasted February 2021

The "Great One" is on a mission to make "great" wines and whiskey's - and this bottle is a marriage of the two. A blend of 47% Merlot, 34% Cabernet, 15% Malbec and 4% Cabernet Franc. Approximately 25% of the wine is aged in Red Cask whisky oak barrels. The whisky barrels give aromas of wood-smoke, tobacco and caramel combined with black fruit. The residual sugar is 9 g/l so some sweetness is evident on the palate with spice and ripe fruit. Acidity, tannins and fruit are all well balanced and the mouthfeel is soft. This is an easy sipper in front of a fireplace or would pair well with any grilled meats or a rich stew. Tasted February 2021.

2019 was the first vintage of Monk's Blend. In 2017 Peller Estates purchased the Gray Monk Estate Winery and I think this new easy drinking red blend is going to be a big seller of theirs. Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon are two aromatic grapes that impart aromas of spice, black pepper, black currants and blackberry. Very fruit forward with ripe blackberries and some spice on the palate. The mouthfeel is lush and the tannins soft - a very easy drinking wine! I think I would have liked a bit more grip on the tannins but would definitely buy this wine again. Tasted February 14/2021 and paired it with a Valentine's Steak Dinner from The Keg.

An impressive sparkling made in the traditional method from the Okanagan Valley in British Columbia. Fine perlage in the flute, with notes of green apple, petrol, citrus and freshly baked bread. The second fermentation takes place in the bottle for 13 months "sur lie". The unusual combination of grapes; Riesling, Pinot Blanc and Chardonnay all lend to the complexity of the wine. Flavours of citrus and ripe apple with crisp acidity. Great for an aperitif or pair with some lightly salted potato chips for a casual snack. Tasted February 2021.

"To quote Sandhill Winemaker, Sandy Leier: My goal is to promote a lot of lychee character in the aroma and flavour profile. " She certainly has achieved her goal - this wine sings lychee! Add in some melon and white stone fruit and you have a very aromatic wine. Lychee again on the palate but with some crisp acidity to offset the higher sugar levels (17.4 g/l). A fairly long persistent finish of - you guessed it - lychee! This is a nice fruity, low alcohol (11%) wine that would be versatile with a lot of food. Thai, curries, lightly grilled chicken, Asian dishes with a bit of zing and goat cheese to name a few. Tasted February 10, 2021
