Sonoma Coast

La Crema Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir 2016

Sonoma Coast, California, United States

Lori scored this wine: 92/100

La Crema Pinot's are some of my favourite and I might have more than a few in my cellar. It's my "go to" wine for a California Pinot. The Sonoma Coast Pinot are their entry level wines that deliver for the value. Aromas of ripe cherry, strawberry and an underlying earthiness and vanilla. Ripe cherry and cranberry flavours with smooth lush tannins and just the right amount of acidity to balance with a finish that lingers. I love these wines with a roast pork coated in herbs (rosemary/thyme) but also find it a great wine to sip all on it's own. Tasted April 26/2019 California Wine Fair

Coming from the cooler climate of the Sonoma Coast one wouldn't expect this Pinot to be as rich and lush as it is. Aromas of red cherry, cranberry and spice. Ripe cherry flavours with smooth tannins, bright acidity and a long finish. This is part of the Duckhorn portfolio who know how to craft a great wine. This Pinot earned three stars in my notebook at the California Wine Fair. Tasted April 26/2019.

Treana Cabernet Sauvignon 2015

A stellar wine from the Hope Family in Paso Roble. Second generation Austin Hope made this wine as a tribute to the three men who he felt contributed to his character and success; his father Chuck, his Uncle Paul and winemaker Chuck Wagner. Layers of aromas; dark fruit (cherry, blackberry), smoke, leather and vanilla. On the palate spice and ripe fruit abound. Full bodied with beautifully integrated tannins and acidity. I personally picked up a few bottles after tasting and will save it for Sunday roast beef dinners or steak on the bbq this summer. Tasted April 26/2019 California Wine Fair

Hahn Family Wines Pinot Noir 2017

This is a great value Pinot Noir. In fact, after the California Wine Fair I know one person who went out and bought what was left in the local LCBO to have on hand for this summer! At this price point Pinot's are usually not as complex as what the Hahn Family has managed to do with this vintage. Aromas of fresh cherry, cedar and rhubarb. Cherry flavours again on the palate with a medium body, silky tannins and soft acidity. If you can still find some this is a great find for casual weekday meals. Davis Bynum Russian River Valley Pinot Noir 2017

In 1973 David Bynum was the first winery to produce single vineyard Russian River Valley Pinot Noir. Forty-six years later under the ownership of the Klein family the winery continues to produce top quality Pinot. This 2017 vintage has aromas of cherry and vanilla and a touch of earthiness. Flavours of cherry, rhubarb and beet with a smooth mouthfeel. Medium body and tannins with just the right touch of acidity. Pair with grilled pork tenderloin basted with a cherry jelly to marry the flavours! Tasted April 26/2019 California Wine Fair
