Lori scored this wine: 91/100

An expressive 100% Aglianico from Campania, the grapes from this wine are grown in two vineyards 400-700 meters above sea level. 13.5% alcohol and with lots of backbone - this is a vintage that can and will age well. Aromas of blackberry, plum and spice. Full bodied and well balanced fruit, acidity and tannins. If you're looking to expand your palate this would be a great wine to try. I'm a lover of truffle cheese and see this as a great pairing. It would also go well with roasted meats or game. Tasted September 17/2019 Grand Marchi

1868 Brut Conegliano Valdobbiadene

Carpenè Malvolti 1868 Brut Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore

Veneto D.O.C.G., Italy

Lori scored this wine: 90/100

A delicious sparkling DOCG Prosecco from one of the oldest wineries in Veneto. It's said this was the "first" Prosecco made in the area - hence the "1868". Pale straw yellow with aromas of green apple, pear and citrus. Delightful effervescence with fine persistent bubbles. Medium acidity with a medium-long finish. I'm travelling to the Conegliano area soon and hope to be able to tour the winery and hear more about their history. Tasted September 17/2019 Grand Marchi

Tenuta Tignanello Riserva

Marchese Antinori Tenuta Tignanello Riserva Chianti Classico 2015

Predominantly Sangiovese with some Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon blended in this is a great value wine to pull out on special occasions, or any occasion for that matter. The grapes are sourced 100% from the Tignanello estate and aged mostly in neutral barrels. A dry (2 g/l)wine with vibrant aromas and flavours. Mature red fruit, medium acidity and fine tannins. Good structure and well balanced. Tasted September 17/19 Grand Marchi

Sassicaia 2016

Bolgheri-Sassicaia Doc, Italy

Lori scored this wine: 95/100

If you have some spare cash on October 27/2019 head to the LCBO. This latest release of Sassicaia will be available in Vintages. Here's your chance to put a bottle (or bottles) of Super Tuscans in your cellar. It's been said this is a wine to rival the highly acclaimed 1985 vintage. Now, having NOT tasted that bottle I can't compare - but I will say this is a wine worth every cent you will spend on it. The blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Cabernet Franc alone is enough to give pause. Tenuta San Guido's technical sheets say for the climate that: "2016 is a vintage worthy of praise, considered by some even better than the exceptional 2015" Layers and layers of aromas and flavour; dark brooding fruit; blackberry and black cherry. Spice and herbs, caramel and vanilla. Definitive tannins that are very present but will smooth out with age. Balanced acidity and a long long finish that you want to go on forever. I've got a few weeks to save up - trust me - I am!! Tasted September 17/2019 Grand Marchi

Cúmaro Riserva

Umani Ronchi Cúmaro Riserva 2015

Conero, Marche D.O.C.G., Italy

Lori scored this wine: 91/100

Umani Ronchi has vineyards in Abruzzo and Marche. Both areas that are under represented in our Ontario LCBO's - in my opinion anyway! This 100% Montepulciano comes from the Conero region of Marche. Only 4,900 bottles were made in 2015. This is the northernmost area in Italy growing Montepulciano and the vineyard is a stone's throw from the Adriatic Sea. Flavours and aromas of cherry and blueberry with herbal notes. Tannins are fine but still tightly wound. Medium body and dry (only 2 g/l) with 13.5% alcohol. I visited Marche and Abruzzo in 2018 and tasted many Montepulciano from older vintages that had stood the test of time. This would be a good vintage to buy several bottles and cellar to fully appreciate it's qualities. Tasted Sept. 17/19 Grand Marchi
