It is coming up on January 29th-February 4th, 2012.\u00a0 This event focuses on the king of truffles \u2013 the fragrant black <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/culinarygetaways.com\/truffles\" target=\"_blank\">melanosporum truffles<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0that are found in the Provence region of France between mid-November and mid-February.<\/p>\n<p>I love the flavor of these incredible melanosporum truffles, but one of the best parts of the week is the truffle hunt with a local farmer and his dogs.\u00a0 It is really fun to tag along and watch the hunt take<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nataliemaclean.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/truffle-dog1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-2705\" title=\"truffle dog\" src=\"http:\/\/www.nataliemaclean.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/truffle-dog1-160x106.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"160\" height=\"106\" \/><\/a> place.\u00a0 From the dog\u2019s first sniff of the ground to the triumphant retrieval of the truffle, the hunt is fascinating and fun.\u00a0 After each find, the farmer is, of course, rewarded with a truffle and the dog is rewarded with a treat, typically a sausage.\u00a0 The dog is happy and the farmer is pretty happy, too.\u00a0 We\u2019re happy, as well, as we get to sample a tasty dish with truffles at the end of the hunt.<\/p>\n<p>During the week, we cook together using the melanosporum truffles and other local ingredients in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nataliemaclean.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/Truffled-eggs.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-2708\" title=\"Truffled eggs\" src=\"http:\/\/www.nataliemaclean.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/Truffled-eggs-160x106.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"160\" height=\"106\" \/><\/a>our dishes.\u00a0 We also work with a local chef to get more hands-on experience in using truffles.\u00a0 We dine on truffle meals everyday \u2013 sometimes at home in our gorgeous farmhouse in the Luberon region of Provence and sometimes in local restaurants.\u00a0 One day, we visit Chez<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nataliemaclean.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/Truffled-potatoes.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-2709\" title=\"Truffled potatoes\" src=\"http:\/\/www.nataliemaclean.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/Truffled-potatoes-160x106.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"160\" height=\"106\" \/><\/a> Bruno, the famous restaurant in the Var Region that specializes in truffles.\u00a0 That is such a fantastic dining experience in an old converted farmhouse with a wonderful fireplace warming the air.<\/p>\n<p>Other excursions include visits to local markets, including a truffle market, to buy the finest in fresh, local and seasonal ingredients.\u00a0 We taste wines in Chateauneuf du Pape and learn how to pair them with our food.\u00a0 We also visit a famous sommelier in France who also owns a restaurant that specializes in truffles.\u00a0 We have excursions to several of the local villages, including St. Remy, Gordes, Goult, Isle sur la Sorgue, Carpentras and others.<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nataliemaclean.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/Truffle-market-12.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-2715\" title=\"Truffle market (1)\" src=\"http:\/\/www.nataliemaclean.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/Truffle-market-12-160x106.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"160\" height=\"106\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Our farmhouse there has been beautifully and luxuriously remodeled and has one of the best chef\u2019s kitchens that I have ever seen.\u00a0 Each bedroom has a private bathroom.\u00a0 The living room has a big fireplace and plush seating areas.\u00a0 The home is a short walk to a charming village.\u00a0 The owners of the farmhouse also own a winery and a chateau nearby.\u00a0 They come over one evening and cook dinner for us.\u00a0 It is a fantastic time as they are warm and funny and incredibly welcoming.<\/p>\n<p>We limit our Truffle Getaway to five participants each year so that it can be a personalized and unique experience for all.\u00a0 Would love to have you join us!\u00a0\u00a0 We welcome singles, couples and friends.\u00a0 Here is a link to our website with additional information: <a href=\"http:\/\/culinarygetaways.com\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Culinary Getaways<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Time to get to work now on confirming our reservations and making sure we are all set for a fabulous truffle week!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>With autumn swiftly approaching, it\u2019s time to finalize plans for one of our very favorite wintertime events \u2013 our Truffle Getaway in Provence.
