She also gives a local boy a crash course on how to be a sommelier course and serve fine wine.<\/p>\n<p>The extravagant food and wine are made more sumptuous not just because they are infused with Babette\u2019s selflessness, but also because of the contrast with the bleak Northern landscape and its sensory-deprived inhabitants.<\/p>\n<p>As they eat and drink, the community mem<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-large wp-image-20444\" src=\"http:\/\/www.nataliemaclean.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Babettes-Feast-wine-350x287.jpg\" alt=\"Babettes Feast wine\" width=\"350\" height=\"287\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.nataliemaclean.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Babettes-Feast-wine-350x287.jpg 350w, https:\/\/www.nataliemaclean.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Babettes-Feast-wine-160x131.jpg 160w, https:\/\/www.nataliemaclean.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Babettes-Feast-wine-125x102.jpg 125w, https:\/\/www.nataliemaclean.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Babettes-Feast-wine.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 350px) 100vw, 350px\" \/>bers\u2019 icy exteriors melt, and their long-suppressed emotions and senses re-awaken. They are reborn but not through their religion.<\/p>\n<p>Twelve sit at the table\u2014Babbette doesn\u2019t join them. Biblical overtones here.<\/p>\n<p>Bickering neighbours make amends, a pessimist starts to see the good in others, and a visiting Swedish general recalls his carefree days in Paris.
