Unless, of course, you end up spending so much time preparing it that you\u2019re completely drained by the time they show up at your house. With that in mind, I give you this week\u2019s recipe suggestion: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dairygoodness.ca\/cheese\/all-you-need-is-cheese\/recipes\/autumn-hash\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Autumn Hash<\/strong><\/a>. A new twist on an old classic, this shepherd\u2019s pie 2.0 will not only wow your guests, it\u2019ll actually leave you time to enjoy their company.<\/p>\n<p>The recipe calls for all sorts of yummy ingredients, including Canadian Havarti. And if that wasn\u2019t enough to tempt you, it also pairs beautifully with a number of delightful wines. For those who love a nice white, I suggest a full-bodied 2008 Napa Valley <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nataliemaclean.com\/winepicks\/wine\/chappellet-winery-chardonnay-2008\/13398\"><strong>Chardonnay from Chappellet<\/strong><\/a>. If red better suits your palate, go for a nuanced Burgundy such as a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nataliemaclean.com\/winepicks\/wine\/gabriel-dardhuy-bourgogne-pinot-noir-2009\/92205\"><strong>Gabriel D&#8217;ardhuy Bourgogne Pinot Noir<\/strong><\/a> 2009.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s to friends!<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nataliemaclean.com\/winepicks\/wine\/chappellet-winery-chardonnay-2008\/13398\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-11101\" title=\"Chappellet Chardonnay 2008\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.nataliemaclean.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/Chappellet-Chardonnay-2008.jpg\" width=\"72\" height=\"250\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Ingredients<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p>2 cups (500 ml) potatoes, diced<br \/>\n1 cup (250 ml) celeriac, diced<br \/>\n1 tbsp (15 ml) butter<br \/>\n1 small red onion, chopped<br \/>\n2 garlic cloves, chopped<br \/>\n\u00bd bell pepper, (your choice), diced<br \/>\n1 celery stalk, diced<br \/>\n1 cup (250 ml) butternut squash, diced or grated<br \/>\n1 lb (450 ) extra-lean ground beef , and\/or veal<br \/>\n1\u00bd cups (375 ml) corn kernels, fresh or thawed<br \/>\nSalt<br \/>\nFreshly ground pepper<br \/>\n\u00bc cup (60 ml) milk<br \/>\n2 tbsp (30 ml) chopped fresh parsley<br \/>\n1\u00bd cups (375 ml) diced Canadian Havarti<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nataliemaclean.com\/winepicks\/wine\/gabriel-dardhuy-bourgogne-pinot-noir-2009\/92205\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft  wp-image-11102\" title=\"Gabriel D'ardhuy Pinot Noir 2009\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.nataliemaclean.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/Gabriel-Dardhuy-Pinot-Noir-2009.jpg\" width=\"72\" height=\"250\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Instructions<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p>Place potatoes and celeriac in a saucepan. Cover with salted cold water and bring to a boil. Let cook 15\u201320 minutes or until vegetables are tender.<\/p>\n<p>In the meantime, in a large skillet, melt butter and brown onion, garlic, pepper, celery and squash for 3\u20134 minutes. Add meat and cook thoroughly. Mix in corn and season. Transfer to an oven-safe dish.<\/p>\n<p>Preheat oven to 375F (190C).<\/p>\n<p>Drain potatoes and celeriac. Mash with a potato masher, adding milk and parsley. Season. Spread mashed potatoes and celeriac onto meat mixture and top with Havarti.
