They&#8217;re also the purchasers of most household items from Shreddies to SUVs.<\/p>\n<p>The article says that Canadians are drinking 12 per cent more than they did a decade ago, according to Statistics Canada, and industry watchers are attributing a significant portion of the increase to women.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nataliemaclean.com\/blog\/women-drive-wine-sales-up\/woman-buying-wine-xl\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-26704\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-26704\" src=\"http:\/\/www.nataliemaclean.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/01\/woman-buying-wine-xl-1024x682.jpg\" alt=\"woman buying wine xl\" width=\"648\" height=\"432\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.nataliemaclean.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/01\/woman-buying-wine-xl-1024x682.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.nataliemaclean.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/01\/woman-buying-wine-xl-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.nataliemaclean.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/01\/woman-buying-wine-xl-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 648px) 100vw, 648px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nThe large rise in consumption \u2013 as high as 24 per cent in Prince Edward Island \u2013 is thought to be the result of a number of factors: a broader product assortment that tends to attract women, successful marketing strategies targeting both sexes, and boomers who are experimenting with more sophisticated ways to entertain.<\/p>\n<p>Beer sales in Canada have been consistent and Statscan says it is men who tend to drink that beverage.<\/p>\n<p>Wine sales, however, have tripled in some parts of the country. Alan Middleton, a marketing expert at York University, largely attributes this boom to women.<\/p>\n<p>Professor Middleton said that as retailers expanded marketing campaigns for wine and mixed drinks over the past decade, women consumed more of those beverages as alternatives to filling, harsher-tasting beers and brown liquors.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">My take on this is that a shared love of wine is another way for men and women to gather around the table together.
