Reviews and Ratings

Daniel O'Keefe rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

Sporting the lighter red shade of Nebbiolo, this Barolo offers up rose petal, sour cherry, truffle, and some earthy minerality. Massive tannins, hugely grippy and demanding of food, or a prime position in the long-term aging section of the cellar. Beyond the tannins, there is a healthy body and racy acidity. Wild game wine, so consider goose, duck, or venison. While Barolos typically command high prices, there is good value in this product.
Rebecca Meir-Liebman - Sommelier rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

San Silvestro Barolo is seductive from its first approach - I adore the appealing rose-nose that it has! The appearance of the wine is quite translucent, which is very typical with the Nebbiolo grape variety. A traditional, old-world style of Italian Barolo, this wine has evident tannins that dance playfully with a delicate, berry fruitiness. Let it sit for years - it will progressively develop and mature gracefully. Therefore, this Barolo is definitely worth the price.
Carolyn Hetke rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

Red brick colour in the glass. Notes of warm hay on a slightly medicinal nose. Black cherry on the fairly vibrant palate. Medium tannins. Medium plus finish. Not bad considering 2014 was a challenging year for Barolos. Serve with Saltimbocca. Tasted July 2019. www.thewineloverskitchen.com
San Silvestro Patres 2014 is a well-priced Barolo under $40. Made from 100% Nebbiolo, fragrant with dried fruit, rose petals and tar aromas. Lovely dried fruit, red berry and mineral flavours smooth and mouth-filling on the palate. Tannins are firm. Decant one hour prior to pouring with a game roast. - Community Wine Reviews
