Purple Angel will make you feel as though you've gone to heaven aloft a cloud of sensory pleasure. Can one wine pack more flavour into the bottle? I'm skeptical. If you love full-bodied, juicy, fruit-forward wines, this is your apogee as it also has all of those other great hallmarks of superb wine: complexity, balance and finish. Yes please!

Carmenere food pairings: hearty meat dishes, grilled steaks, osso buco.

Reviews and Ratings

Daniel O'Keefe rated this wine as 93/100 with the following review:

The deep, dark, purple colour hints at the intensity to follow. Massive multifaceted nose show many layers or aromatics. Cassis, black raspberry, and violets interlaced with cedar, leather, savoury herbs, spice, green pepper, dark earth, and briar, back up further by cocoa, freshly brewed dark roast coffee, anise, and graphite. Palate is equally generous as the dark fruits resonate with smoke, spice, and herb. Enormous wine boasting 14.5% ABV with tannins and acidity to match. Over seven years of age, and possibly not even at the halfway point. 92% Carmenere and 8% Petit Verdot aged 18 months in new French oak. A stunner, a show-stopper, and an unforgettable wine. Enjoy with red meat, especially roasted or grilled, or rich aged cheeses.
The grape Carmenere resurfaced in Chile about 12 years ago after being believed extinct when the root louse phylloxera hit Bordeaux, its original home, in 1880. In Chile it's called the "Jurassic Grape" because it returned from so-called extinction. Montes grapes are planted on steep vineyards for maximum drainage. This vintage is a blend of 92% Carmenere, 8% petite Verdot aged for 18 months in French and American oak barrels. - Community Wine Reviews
