A robust, richly flavoured, concentrated Greek red wine made from the Cabernet Sauvignon grape. This wine was matured for 16 months in an 85/15 split of French oak and American oak barrels. The vines were cordon trained, grown in a cool climate achieving late maturity for extra complexity and planted in sandy-clay soils. The 2011 vintage yielded 14,0000 bottles. The vineyard was originally used by the Holy Monastery of Mega Spileo (Grand Cave) for 500 years of respected wine production. Aromas of black plums, cassis and smoke. Decant 1-2 hours and enjoy with grilled meats.

Lovely. Aromas of dried berry, black tea, eucalyptus, smoky tobacco and some black spice. Full bodied on the palate, with some bright acidity, ripe berry with a hint of dried berry, and some herbal notes on the finish. This would benefit from a bit of decanting. Nine years old and lots of life left. Enjoy with grilled beef kebabs.

From Domain Mega Spileo, Grand Cave 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon is produced from wine grapes in the Achaia wine region. The wine was aged for 24 months in mostly French oak and 15% American oak (60% new) barrels. Look for dark plum compote, caramel, vanilla, coffee, roasted nut and pepper spice flavours on this velvety red. Yiannis and Theodoros Anastassiou established Mega Spileo Domaine in 1999.
