A full-bodied, tannic Portuguese red wine with mocha and toasty oak on the nose. Black plum and raspberry with dark spices on the mid-palate and finish. Long finish on this D.O.C. wine. There's been a revolution in dry red wines from Portugal: try this one and you'll know what I'm talking about. This particular wine hails from a well-known producer of port, the fortified dessert wine. The Touriga Nacional grape offers signature black fruit aromas and richness. Loaded with toasty oak and tarry black fruit with a bitter bite on the finish. Decant 2 hours. This wine made from 100% Touriga Nacional grapes was matured for 12 months in oak casks. Great with game meats.

Touriga Nacional food pairings: pizza.

Reviews and Ratings

Jane Staples - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

From the spectacular Douro Valley,Portugal, an opaque purple-red wine made made from indigenousTouriga Nacional grapes. Dark fruit on the nose with hints of licorice, herbs and violets. Palate gives delicious black currant, floral hints, oak and earthy notes. Aged 12 mos in oak. Very dry, blackcurrant finish. Excellent with game and hearty red meats.
Matt Steeves - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Delaforce's 2013 Touriga Nacional from Portugal's Douro region is a great example of Portugal's famous grape variety that's so commonly used in the production of sweet Port but is becoming increasingly popular in dry table wine. This wine is bone dry and super smooth. Opaque with a purple hue, the nose shows blackberry, charcoal, graphite, and black pepper. The palate is layered and delicious, with dark berries, black liquorice, and so velvety smooth. A big wine that will continue evolve over the next 10 years. Great with braised beef dishes. Tasted August 2015. 90 points. Matt Steeves - www.quercusvino.ca
This robust Portuguese red wine is made from Touriga Nacional grapes, the indigenous grapes, among others, in the country. Produced by Real Companhia Velha, the Delaforce family has been making wine in the Douro region for two centuries. - Community Wine Reviews
