PRESTIGE / Lots of blackened, chary fruit and oak on the nose of this southern French red wine. A rich, full-bodied red with black fruit and smoke aromas. This wine is a blend of Malbec and Merlot grapes, from a family who has been growing vines since 1773 in this region. This red displays that history with lots of heft, concentration and depth. It finishes with some pepper and smoke. I'd drink it with brisket or prime rib. Produced by Domaines Roche, and located in the heart of the Cahors region of southern France. Pair with meaty ravioli or a thick minestrone soup. MINE: This red wine is an inky Malbec from the Cahors wine region in Southwest France. Chateau Croze De Pys Prestige (2012) is a red wine blend of Malbec and Merlot grapes, from a family who has been growing vines since 1773 in this region. Lots of juicy concentration, richness and structure on this wine. Château Croze de Pys is a Malbec specialist in the grape's traditional home of Cahors. Pair with steaks or game. OTHER: Jane Staples - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review: Fragrant blueberry, notes of violet and mocha on nose and palate with touch of oak, very smooth with fine tannins. Tasted April 2017. OTHER: Heather Wall - CS; WSET Advanced rated this wine as 87/100 with the following review: Very aromatic Malbec from Cahors of South West France. Deep ruby with purple colour with definitive coffee, leather, floral, charred wood, ripe red fruit aromas. The palate has black pepper, herbs de Provence, spice drawer, some grainy tannins with medium(+) acidity. Decent length with a wisp of anise and black earth on the finish. Solid price performer. Suggest decanting if enjoying it today. Needs to open up for full enjoyment. Tasted: April 2017. OTHER: Stephen Andrews reviewed this wine as follows: Tasted April 16th 2017. Red rose colour on the rim and all the way to the core. Opened 1 hour before tasting. Aroma of blueberries and wet gravel. On the palate more blueberry tartness and good balance of flavours. Finishes medium length. An easy drinking Malbec. Some reviewers note coffee, violets and crushed stone. We had this wine with a juicy prime rib, small creamy Dutch potatoes and organic boiled carrots. OTHER: With the phenomenal success of Argentine Malbec, wine lovers are now rediscovering the grape's origins in Cahors. The Roche family has been cultivating vines here since 1773. The Prestige Malbec Cahors has continued to impress vintage after vintage, with its consistent depth of blue and dark fruit and complex coffee, spice and vanilla tones.
