Natalie's Score: 91/100

This robust Spanish red wine is a blend of 90% Tempranillo and 10% Graciano from the heart of the Rioja region. Lots of juicy, mouth-watering aromas wild blackberry and blackcurrant. Terrific value for this classic red wine that has the depth and richness of cherry liqueur flavours, but is bone dry. Full-bodied and tasty with a velvet texture. Pair with rack of lamb. Yes please!

Tempranillo food pairings: smoked sausages, lamb stew, venison steak..

Reviews and Ratings

Colin McKone - Sommelier rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Ruby in colour with aromas of plum, black cherry, smoke and blackberries. It is full bodied with well balanced tannins and acidity with the aromas repeating on the palate. This will pair well with grilled red meats and strong cheeses. A terrific value wine for the price. Tasted on May 19, 2019.
Daniel O'Keefe rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

Black cherry, plum, blackberry, vanilla, and oak on the nose. Nicely structured with good tannins and acidity. Dark fruit on the palate yielding to tobacco, smoke, and earthy tones in the finish. A slight note of char. Very nice wine that belongs on the dinner table. Enjoy alongside lamb cutlets or shepherds pie.
Carolyn Hetke rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

For a 2014 this is still very much a big wine! The nose is pleasantly tarry. The fruit has receded somewhat and the palate is primarily smoky oak. Chalky tannins leave you with a long lingering finish. This is a lot of wine for the price. Best enjoyed with food like old cheddar or manchego, jamon Iberico, or spicy meatballs. www.thewineloverskitchen.com
Burgo Viejo 2014 is a beautiful Rioja Viejo Crianza under $20. Can't beat that value. Full-bodied and dry, this powerful, mouth-watering red is a blend of 90% Tempranillo and 10% Graciano. Lots for rich , cherry fruit, spice and vanilla with a hint of smoke. Tannins are fine and chewy. Pair with grilled lamb chops. - Community Wine Reviews
