Burgo Viejo Crianza 2018 is an amazing value Rioja at $14. A red blend of mostly Tempranillo with some Graciano added to the mix, the wine is dry, medium-plus-bodied and spicy with dark plum, blackberry, dried tobacco leaf, herbs, dark chocolate, pepper and well-integrated oak spice flavours with balanced acidity on the palate. Tannins are structured. The wine was matured for one year in American oak barrels. Pair with aged, sharp cheeses.

Crianza food pairings: smoked sausages, lamb stew, venison steak.

Reviews and Ratings

Christian Marcoux rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

The Burgo Viejo Crianza 2018 is a fine choice if you want to experience a Rioja-born wine made from Tempranillo. Aromas of fig, raisin, dried leaves, volcanic rock, cocoa, cinnamon and cedar emanate from this wine. The palate reveals tastes of sour cherry, dried blackberry, black pepper, dried rose, spice, and cedar, showing a medium body, fine balance and a dried fruit finish. Enjoy.
