After many years in the high-tech industry we never dreamed we would take our passion for wine to create William Church Winery. But when Rod left the corporate world in 2004 we decided to take our garage based winemaking efforts to a higher level to produce premium wines that he could share with others who love wine as much as we do. As Seattle natives (and WSU Cougars) we started to look into where to establish a winery and were happy to find a booming wine industry practically in our backyard in Woodinville, Washington. We then consulted with Matthew Loso of Matthews Cellars among others to ensure we were using top quality commercial wine making practices and products. Then in 2005 after choosing the name William Church based on Rod's father's name and Leslie's father's middle name (see sidebar) our adventure began.

Creating exceptional wines using the highest quality grapes is what we want to achieve every time we produce a wine. Since so much of winemaking starts with the grapes we began our search for some of the best vineyards in the state. We believe we have found many of those sources using a combination of established vineyards and some up and coming newcomers.

Our challenge is to make excellent wines seeking out the best grapes and applying both rigorous winemaking standards with the artistry needed to produce an exceptional wine. We are excited to pursue this goal and we love the fact we can create a community around those who enjoy our wines that we can really get know and will follow us as we grow. Thank you for your interest & support for us and William Church Winery.

Unquenchable by Natalie MacLean

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a feisty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
