in Barn Vineyards celebrates those hidden treasures that lie off the map. Our wines highlight the true character of the earth and air, from sun-drenched Napa Valley to wild, coastal Sonoma County.
High atop the ridges of the Sonoma coast, near the intersection of Tin Barn Road and King Ridge Road, lies a tiny plot of Syrah vines. It is from this remote, fog enshrouded slope that we sourced our very first wine and derived inspiration for our name.
That was back in 2000*. Over the course of the decade, winemaker Michael Lancaster and business partners have made a fitting home in our own "tin barn"--a warehouse in rural Sonoma that serves as both cellar space and tasting room. Here, we've joined with fellow artisan winemakers to form the collective known as Eighth Street Wineries.
Tin Barn Vineyards is the fruit of five friends' passion for the grape.
In 2000, Mike Lancaster, Gray Fowler, and Carl Stewart, set out with the goal to produce elegant yet unapologetically full-bodied red wines. In 2006, Kurt Chapman and Bud Johnson joined the partnership. Separated by oceans and continents, they are united--as we all are--by fine wine.
