The vineyards at the Stolpman estate enjoy the warm days and cool nights of Ballard Canyon, which lies 25 miles from the Pacific Ocean in Santa Barbara County, on California’s Central Coast. The combination of climate, southern exposure, and limestone soils makes for a unique terroir suited to growing Syrah, Sangiovese, and Roussanne.
The first vines were planted at Stolpman in 1992 by Coastal Vineyard Care Associates, who continue to farm and develop the 220-acre estate. We are constantly improving our vineyards according to the latest information available about viticultural techniques, technology, vine material and our specific terroiWe believe that the backbone of our company is the group of people who do the hands-on work in the vineyard; their diligent efforts and masterful skill are essential to producing the great grapes our winery receives.
We also believe that a better understanding of the entire process, not just the task to which a person is assigned, results in better teamwork and dedication to our goal. Stolpman Vineyards organizes regular vineyard crew visits to the winery, where our winemakers explain the year-round vinifying process. The vineyards at Stolpman were originally planted with the sole intention of selling the fruit to other Central Coast wineries. Now, with our own estate wine program, we continue to provide fruit to other wineries but on a smaller, more selective scale. In many cases, producers choose to bottle wine from Stolpman fruit separately under a vineyard-designated label.
The estate contains an assortment of varietals including Syrah, Sangiovese, Nebbiolo, Sauvignon Blanc, Roussanne, Grenache, Cinsault, and Merlot. To inquire about purchasing grapes from Stolpman Vineyards, e-mail info@stolpmanvineyards.com.
