Sonoma-Cutrer has been producing world class Grand Cru Chardonnay since 1981 and Burgundian Style Pinot noir since 2002. Sonoma-Cutrer owns a total of six vineyards in Sonoma County which go into our estate bottled wines. The Cutrer Vineyard, which is also the site of the Winery, consists of approximately 250 acres on the rolling hills of the winery's 400-acre estate. Located in the heart of the Russian River Valley, the soils of the Cutrer Vineyard reflect the geological history of the area — from its origin as ocean floor to the volcanic eruptions of Mt. St. Helena. Volcanic ash, filtered through soil layers, has left the ground deficient in nutrients and water. The resulting stress on the vines is beneficial to the quality of the fruit by significantly reducing cluster size, thereby enhancing the flavor of the juice.
Sonoma-Cutrer Russian River Ranches Chardonnay has been voted the most popular wine by the glass in restaurants for 20 of the past 22 year in Wine and Spirits magazines annual poll.
Mick Schroeter became winemaker in 2010 following the retirement of long-time Sonoma-Cutrer winemaker Terry Adams. As only the third winemaker in 30 years at Sonoma-Cutrer Mick has an extremely impressive history starting at Penfolds in Australia, and most recently being the winemaker at Geyser Peak Winery in Sonoma County for the past 10 years. Mick is committed to continuing the quality, consistency and style that have made Sonoma-Cutrer wines world famous.
