Roy Raymond, Sr. and his two sons, Roy Jr., and Walter founded Raymond Vineyards in 1974. This father and sons team worked together to plant and build Raymond Vineyards. The Raymond family and Napa's history are closely linked. Roy Raymond Sr. arrived in the Napa Valley in 1933 and was hired as a cellar worker at Beringer Brothers Winery in St. Helena. He met Martha Jane Beringer and they were married in 1936.With their first harvest in 1974, Walter naturally assumed the role of winemaker. He has been the winemaker at Raymond since that first crush, working alongside other modern winemaking pioneers in the prized Napa Valley appellation.
He now supervises a full production staff, and has been joined by Kathy George in the winemaking department.

Together, they strive to produce well-crafted wines known for refined elegance, balance, and style. These idyllic conditions produce elegant multi-dimensional red wines that are well-balanced and flavorful. he Raymond family acquired ten acres on Stice Lane in the St. Helena area in 1985. While the climate in St. Helena is the same as the Rutherford vineyard, the soils are more gravelly and lighter in composition. The Cabernet Sauvignon vines planted here tend to be less vigorous, producing smaller berries and lower yields. With a higher skin to soft fruit ratio, these grapes produce wines that are bold, with intense flavors, solid tannins and good structure.

Red, White & Drunk all over by Natalie MacLean

Natalie MacLean writes about wine with a sensuous obsession... and often laugh-out-loud funny... Terrific.

Rex Pickett, Sideways

Ms. MacLean is the disarming Everywoman. She loves wine, loves drinking ... ultimately, it's a winning formula.

Eric Asimov, The New York Times

Unquenchable: A Tipsy Search

  Best Books of the Year

Unquenchable by Natalie MacLean

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a fiesty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
