Cuatro Vacas Gordas is a fun, casual wine made by a tiny, dedicated organic wine farmer (Gustavo Caligiore) who is also known for his organic reserve wines.
These are really handcrafted wines at a very affordable price. He makes only organic wines and he is known for it in Argentina. This wine is a blend of Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon. He picks these grapes a bit earlier and doesn’t age it as long so as to make a fresh, fruity wines with good acidity. Since high quality beef and consumption of beef (lots of grilled meat consumed) is abundant/is high in Argentina, this wine label has a playful (almost infantile) feel and fun name – it essentially highlights the affection for and importance of beef in Argentine culture.
This is yet another wine that makes you look at Argentina in another light – not just very traditional wines with boring labels – but a place where producers are also exploring outside of that tradition to make fun, cool wines in different styles as well as exploring new frontiers in winemaking, grape varieties and terroirs.
